Motorcycle accident

Today I'm going to write about me. I don't know what's happening to me these days but I'm just suffering from little bad accidents. A few days ago, I slide when I was going downstairs; another day I was collecting something from the floor in my grandparents attic and I crashed with the roof when I was standing up; I was doing silly things with my cousin in the street and I hurt my feet... I'm a disaster. But, on the top of all, today I had a motorcycle accident. In my town I sometimes drive a motorcycle to go to different places so today, when I got up, it was sunny and I thought I could go with motorcycle to a friend's house. It was all correct when I arrived there and I spent an hour with her. When I was about to leave, my friend's mother told me it had rained and that my motorcycle would be wet. She gave my a peace of paper to dry it and I did so. After that, I started driving back home and, when I was stopping because I had an automobile road sign, my motorbike's wheels slide and I fell. At first I was astonished because of that but immediately a partner who were on a car, helped me to stand up. I was ok. I just hurt a little bit my knee and my motorcycle was ok too. I thought I just felt because the road was wet and sliding is easy but it ended to be due to the road itself. The partner who had helped me before, explained me that just in front of the automobile road sign there is a place where the road had recently been painted and that could have caused my fall. And that was sure because then, I touched it with my shoe and it slide. So, the most probable thing is that, when I stopped with my motorbike I was just on that part and that made me fall. It could be because I may be a little bit bad at driving... I guess that's another option! But after all my recently "little accidents", I think I would probably walk carefully the following days, just in case I faell again! Right now I'm starting to notice the consequences of this last fall...

I know what you are thinking

As St.Jorge day is arriving, I've decided to write about books. Right now I've got plenty of them still waiting in my bedroom to be read because during school days I don't have much time to read and I'm still finishing one. Anyway, I've always liked going to bookshops and see what kind of new books arrive and which attract me. So I did so and I saw a new book from John Verdon, called "I know what you are thinking". I guess that like most of people, it attracted me firstly by the tittle and then, by the picture on the front page(which you can see in the photo). I didn't know any book by John Verdon and I think I only heard once from that book, but I didn't paid much attention. So I started reading the backpage and it really catch my attention. It's about a man who receives a little envelope which contains a letter. It suggests him to think of one number from 1 until 1000 and, when he does so, he opens the envelope and discovers that the number he thought is the one which was already written in the letter. After that, this man starts investigating with a policeman about who could be the author of the letter, but what at first seems a game and a joke, it ends being a criminal who knows what his victim is thinking.
Does it sound well to you? I like books which capture me from the first page so perhaps I'll buy it. But on the other hand, I get scared very easily so I don't know if I will be able to finish it. I will have to find out! I'll let you know it if I finally read it ;)

PS: "I know what you are thinking" it's the translation for "Sé el que estas pensant", in Catalan, but I think in English this book is called: "Think of a number".

A great day

Like everybody by this time will know, this last Saturday, the 5th of march, was the carnival of Torelló, one of the most spectacular and probably the biggest around town one. My friends and I started thinking about how we could go dressed like a few weeks before that date, and I think this also made this day even more special. We had been designing our custom every day and we could be talking about that hours and hours, but finally, we finished it and we went dressed like cards or poker or however you prefer to call it.
Although we knew the carnival started later, we met at four o’clock at one of my friend’s house. There we finished preparing ourselves. We painted our faces, we took some pictures, we bought some things we would use later… all in all, it was all preparation. After that, we caught the train to go to Torelló. It was really stressful being in the train station waiting for the train and even more being inside. We could hardly enter in. It was really full. When we got down, we started fallowing the music and we started having fun. We met people, we took lots of pictures, we danced a lot and we spent a good time between friends. Finally, we ended the night in “carpes carnaval” and later we went to catch the night bust to return to Tona, were we could finally sleep and rest after a great day between friends.

The year of the 18's

A generation is a group of people from the same age, who were born at the same year. My generation is the generation of 1993. As you may deduce if you just calculate a simple mathematical operation, this is the year when our generation is going to be 18! Eighteen years old is not so much if you stop and think about it. But the importance of being eighteen it’s not what the number is but what it represents. In our country, when someone arrives at this age, it’s considered an “adult” (I write it in brackets because there’s a lot to discuss about it, but the law consider it like this so we should probably accept it). And what does it mean? For parents, it probably means the beginning of a new headache, but for us, the generation who reaches that age, it means we can decide thing for our own, we can sign documents, and even we could leave home if we wanted, as well as we are able to drive, enter to some bars or discos which are up to eighteen, …
So, as I just mentioned, this year is going to be full of 18’s birthday parties. What it’s common is to celebrate this special birthday a little bit different from others. Everybody celebrates it as they want, but between friends, it’s really exciting to prepare surprises and also give some extra joking presents. I’ve already been in some parties like that. It’s really funny to see the expressions the birthday-boy or birthday-girl make when they see the presents or even, if they know nothing, the surprise they take when they see all their friends together! In some occasions, you have to look casual and in others, you need to be dressed as if you were graduating (this is very common in “puestas de largo” that some families like to prepare for their children). All in all, every eighteen birthday must be unforgettable because not every year one can be considered as a new adult in a family or even between friends. It’s one day in all live and it must be a special day.

A really good present to start the year

Today I would like to explain what happened to my family and me just nine years ago, on 2002. It was on the New Years Eve. I was with my mum and brother outside home, maybe buying some food for that night or maybe visiting someone while my father was at home. He was paying attention to the sidewalk in front of our house because there was a big electricity-post that was being repaired. As he stood there, he saw a dog. He began touching it. Then he let it enter to our house and he gave it a piece of bread. The dog was just moving the tail as a sign of satisfaction and it lay on our house's grass. After some time, my dad returned to the place where the workers were repairing the post, and he saw them collecting their things as if they were leaving. It was then when it began everything. My father reminded them that they were forgetting the dog in our house, but they suddenly answered: "What dog are you talking about?”. It was all confusion. While my dad was thinking that the dog owned to the workers and let it enter the house, the workers thought that the dog was ours as they saw it with my father! Can you believe it?
My dog, Perla
Then, after some time, my brother, my mum and I arrived. My father was in the garden, probably fixing some things (as he usually likes to do). When he saw us, he just explained what had happened to him minutes ago. But sadly, the dog had left. My brother and I were very disappointed, as we had always wanted a dog and that could have been a really good chance to convince our parents. And as if the dog had heard us, it suddenly appeared again in our garden! We were worried because we celebrate the New Years Eve in a friend’s house, not in our town. That supposed having to leave the dog alone at home until we arrived or let it leave again. We tried to let it go but it didn't want so it spent the night in our house.

On the next morning we went to the vet, and she said that the dog wasn't carrying a "chip" (an identification number that all animals must have in case they belong to someone) and that meant that if nobody reclaimed it in a week, we could do anything we wanted with it.
We were lucky that nobody claimed it, and after long arguments with my family, we finally decided to let the dog stay with us! We chose her a name, Perla, and we bought her everything she needed.

And that's her story! We begun the year with a great present we have always wanted: a dog! :)

Christmas time

Hey! It's Christmas time! But... what does Christmas time mean for people?
Everybody reacts in a different way when it arrives this time of the year. For some people, Christmas time means having to work hard from early in the morning until lately at night to collect some money to be able to buy some presents for the family or for themselves. Others just wait until these days to see the family members all together, on those routine lunches which seem to have no end. On the other hand, there are also the ones who simply don’t like Christmas holidays because they can also be stressful and even they can be considered as a waste of time or (obviously) money.
However, the general perception of Christmas holidays is the one which all the movies portrait and in fact, all the medias. This is the one where streets are full of lights and everybody is outside home in the afternoon and they meet together at home when it gets dark, close to the big fireplace that someone prepared hours before.
In my opinion, Christmas time or Christmas holidays, is a time when I can meet friends that I haven’t seen for a long time, because all of us have more time; it’s a time when I can celebrate things that I probably didn’t give as many importance as they have; it’s a time when I get close to my relatives (due to those family lunches I’ve mentioned before); a time when I decide to tidy up my room because I’ve got no space to put new things (but it’s just an excuse not to recognize it’s a little bit untidy); a time when my brother and I spent more time together because we have to prepare some extra surprise presents for our parents and even we help each other with the new presents … All of these moments and little things, are the ones which make me feel happy when it arrives Christmas time, although there are always negative parts of it, like having to spent many time doing homework because teachers made us do it (they think the word “holidays” means having more time, but it’s not true! More time doesn't mean more things done because we have more things to do)  or having to clean the house more often.

Anyway, that’s my personal opinion about Christmas :)
And now, I wish all of you a really good Christmas holidays. And, as today it’s the 31st of December, I also wish you: Happy New Year!

Enjoy the night as I will try to do ;)

The Wonders of the World

Have you ever heard about the wonders of the World? Yes, I'm sure you have. Maybe it sounds better for you if I say that the wonders of the world are also known as "the seven wonders of the world". Isn't that right? But nowadays it's not as correct as it seems to say that.

Pyramids of Giza

In the ancient times, Hellenists made a list of seven great remarkable constructions which they thought they had to be seen before die. Those ones were: the great Pyramids of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, the Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes and the Lighthouse of Alexandria. Sadly, only one of this seven wonders is still how it was in older times, without lost of damages: the Pyramids of Giza. Perhaps it’s due to the desert sand or perhaps because its location didn’t suffer as many problems as there could be in Olympia or Babylon.
However, the Wonders of the World have changed through the years. Nowadays they can’t be considered as “the seven Wonders” simply because there are not seven. Years ago it took place a private meeting where a group of important particular companies decided which constructions would be the new wonders of the world. And after knowing the answers of the voting they made, a new list was published and it is said that it continued the older list, the original one I have mentioned before.
Although the exact number of the new wonders is not defined, there are lots of new famous buildings, constructions or statues that have been added in the list.
This is the reason why we cannot say anymore “the seven Wonders of the World” as long as we are not referring to the ancient ones.
Here are some examples of the New Wonders, enjoy them!

PS: I recommend you to take a look on them and choose which one you consider the best (don’t forget the ancient ones!) And then, you would better ask me: which is the next step? And I would say: ask your mum and dad for a new family travel! (That would feel really good after the research project we’ve just done, right?)
